A man in his 40s has been sentenced to prison for assaulting a teenage passenger on an intercity bus after being asked to keep quiet, and for punching another person at a highway rest stop.

Cheongju District Court Judge Park Gwang-min sentenced the man, identified only as A, to one year in prison on charges of assault and bodily injury.

A was indicted after he attacked 18-year-old B on an intercity bus traveling from Daejeon to Cheongju in May last year. When B, who was seated next to him, asked him to be quiet, A flew into a rage and struck B in the face.

A also faced charges stemming from a separate incident in July of the same year at a highway rest stop in Cheonan. He had been photographing a parked vehicle belonging to a man identified as C, and when C asked him to delete the photos, A assaulted him. C sustained injuries to his face and elsewhere requiring approximately 90 days of treatment.

The court said it weighed the blameworthy nature of the offenses and A's failure to make any effort toward restitution in determining the sentence, despite his having no prior criminal record.
