Chief inspects aquatic seedling hatchery, hears concerns from affected fishers

Suhyup and Suhyup Bank to provide up to 50 billion won in emergency financial aid

Suhyup Central Federation President Noh Dong-jin visited flood-damaged fishing households in Geoje, South Gyeongsang Province, to assess recovery progress and call for swift support.

The federation said Noh traveled to an aquatic seedling hatchery in Geoje on Thursday to inspect damage caused by heavy rainfall and review the status of ongoing recovery efforts.

Noh listened to affected fishers about the support they need to rebuild their livelihoods and pledged to do everything possible to assist with recovery. He also directed federation staff to mount a full organizational effort to ensure Suhyup's own relief measures are carried out as quickly as possible.

According to the federation's own tally, the torrential rains caused fishing vessels to sink and flooded land-based fish farms with sediment across South Gyeongsang Province. Some branch offices and tax-exempt fuel stations operated by the Geoje, Tongyeong and Hadong-gun fisheries cooperatives were also inundated, with restoration work currently underway.

The federation, together with Suhyup Bank, has already launched an emergency financial support package of up to 50 billion won ($36.2 million) and is continuing on-site damage assessments.

"We will spare no effort to help fishers in South Gyeongsang Province — who have suffered property losses from both high water temperatures and heavy rains — return to their normal lives as soon as possible," Noh said.
