Nine affiliates join relief effort
Emergency supplies, temporary shelters to be provided

Cumulative domestic disaster donations top 130 billion won since 1995
Samsung will donate 3 billion won ($2.17 million) to support recovery efforts in South and North Gyeongsang provinces, where torrential rains have caused widespread damage in areas including Geoje and Tongyeong in South Gyeongsang Province and Andong and Uiseong in North Gyeongsang Province. The group will also provide emergency relief supplies and temporary housing for displaced residents, along with financial assistance for affected customers.
Samsung announced Friday that it would contribute 3 billion won in relief funds to help residents in flood-hit areas return to their daily lives.
Nine affiliates are participating in the donation, including Samsung Electronics, Samsung C&T, Samsung Life, Samsung Display, Samsung SDI, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Samsung SDS and Samsung Fire. Samsung Heavy Industries, whose facilities in Geoje sustained damage in the flooding, also joined the relief effort to support the local community.
Separate from the cash donation, Samsung will provide emergency relief supplies through the Korean Red Cross — 1,000 kits containing daily necessities such as blankets, sportswear, towels and toiletries. The company will also supply 300 portable disaster-relief shelter units.
Samsung has donated annually to the Korean Red Cross since 2005 to help secure equipment and emergency relief supplies for use during disasters.
Samsung Card will extend financial relief to customers affected by the flooding. It will defer credit card billing for August through October for up to six months and allow customers to pay outstanding balances in interest-free installments over the same period.
The company will also reduce interest on card loans by up to 30 percent, and customers whose long-term card loans mature by the end of October will be eligible for maturity extensions.
Samsung has provided cash and in-kind donations whenever major disasters have struck at home or abroad since 1995. Including this latest contribution, its cumulative domestic disaster relief donations have surpassed 130 billion won.
Last July, Samsung donated 3 billion won following heavy rains that hit South Gyeongsang Province, South Chungcheong Province and other parts of the country. When large wildfires broke out in North Gyeongsang Province, South Gyeongsang Province and Ulsan in March of the same year, it contributed 3 billion won in cash and 1 billion won worth of home appliances, while also providing emergency relief kits and free inspections for flood-damaged electronics.
In 2023, Samsung donated 3 billion won each for flood recovery in the Chungcheong and Gyeongsang regions and for wildfire relief in Gangwon Province, South Chungcheong Province, North Gyeongsang Province and South Jeolla Province.
Samsung has also responded to major disasters overseas. During last year's wildfires in Los Angeles, it donated $1 million worth of electronics, including home appliances, tablets and PCs. When a major earthquake struck Turkey in 2023, it provided a total of $3 million in emergency relief funds and supplies.
