South Jeolla Provincial Police Agency strengthens safety management and anti-terror readiness for Yeosu World Islands Expo
The South Jeolla Provincial Police Agency conducted an on-site inspection of the main venue for the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo on Wednesday and held a joint anti-terror drill with related agencies and the National Intelligence Service, as part of efforts to bolster safety management and counter-terrorism readiness for the nationally designated event.
South Jeolla Provincial Police Commissioner Ko Beom-seok visited the main venue at the Dolsan Jinmo district in Yeosu, touring key facilities including the open-air stage and exhibition halls to assess visitor safety management and review preventive measures against crowd-related accidents.
Ko then met with the expo organizing committee to share updates on preparations and safety plans, and discussed ways for police and the committee to collaborate in responding to various situations that could arise during the event.
Ko also observed a joint anti-terror drill held at the Expo Park, where participating agencies rehearsed on-site responses and coordination procedures based on scenarios involving potential terrorist threats.
The drill brought together 10 agencies — including a branch of the National Intelligence Service, the Army's 31st Infantry Division, the 11th Airborne Special Forces Brigade and the South Jeolla fire department — along with police station chiefs and security division heads from the South Jeolla Provincial Police Agency. The exercise focused on building the capacity to respond swiftly and effectively to real emergencies, covering the full chain of response from initial action to scene control and inter-agency coordination.
"The Yeosu World Islands Expo is a nationally important event expected to draw large numbers of domestic and international visitors, so we must be fully prepared for any crisis, including a terrorist attack," Ko said. "We will work closely with related agencies from the preparation stage to ensure the expo is held safely, and will mount an all-out response with visitor safety as our top priority."
