Graduate of Busan's Donga High School and Yonsei University; 44th-class civil service exam; former FSC insurance division chief
To oversee financial hub infrastructure expansion and fintech innovation support
Busan city government appointed Lee Dong-yeop, a deputy director-general at the Financial Services Commission, as its financial startup policy director effective Thursday. The appointment follows the expiration of the previous director's secondment and carries a one-year term through Aug. 26, 2027.
The financial startup policy director is a senior director-level post equivalent to the third grade of the civil service. It oversees financial affairs related to expanding the city's financial hub infrastructure and supporting fintech innovation, as well as startup and venture support policy. The city said the appointment is intended to leverage the FSC's expertise in financial policy to strengthen Busan's competitiveness as a financial center and invigorate its finance and startup ecosystem.
Lee, born in 1973, graduated from Donga High School in Busan and studied public administration at Yonsei University. He entered public service through the 44th-class civil service examination and held key posts at the FSC, including chief of the insurance division and chief of the financial innovation division under the financial industry bureau. He holds a master's degree in business administration from Boston University and a doctorate in economics from Chung-Ang University.
"Drawing on the wealth of experience and expertise he has built at the Financial Services Commission, I expect him to actively reflect the voices from the field in policy and lead the development of Busan's financial industry," Mayor Jeon said.
