Five projects in North Gyeongsang Province have been selected for inclusion in the Ministry of Planning and Budget's "6th Five-Year National and Local Road Construction Plan (2026–2030)."

According to North Gyeongsang Province, the Ministry of Planning and Budget convened its 7th Fiscal Investment Evaluation Committee on Wednesday and approved the batch preliminary feasibility study targets for the 6th national and local road construction plan.

The batch preliminary feasibility study for the 6th national and local road construction plan is a procedure for selecting projects to be included in the national road construction plan, which the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport draws up every five years.

The five North Gyeongsang projects that cleared the batch review — two new construction projects and three facility improvement projects — span a combined 35.9 kilometers and will require a total investment of 574.9 billion won ($415 million).

The two new construction projects cover the Nongong-to-Habin section in Dalseong and the Sadong-to-Dodong section on Ulleungdo.

The Dalseong Nongong–Habin project will build a two-lane stretch of National Support Local Road No. 67 running through Nongong-eup in Dalseong-gun and Dasan-myeon in Goryeong-gun before connecting to Habin-myeon in Dalseong-gun. The 7.6-kilometer section carries a project cost of 156.4 billion won.

The Ulleungdo Sadong–Dodong project will extend National Support Local Road No. 90 by two lanes over a 2.7-kilometer stretch in preparation for the opening of Ulleung Airport in 2028, at a cost of 163.8 billion won.

The three facility improvement projects cover the Cheongha-to-Jukjang section in Pohang, the Pungcheon-to-Pungsan section in Andong, and the Naeseo-to-Yeonwon section in Sangju.

The Pohang Cheongha–Jukjang project will upgrade National Support Local Road No. 68 to a two-lane road over 7.8 kilometers at a cost of 85.6 billion won, aiming to prevent traffic disruptions caused by winter snowfall and ice and to reduce accident risks on poorly aligned sections.

The Andong Pungcheon–Pungsan project will improve National Support Local Road No. 79 to a two-lane road over 11.8 kilometers at a cost of 111.9 billion won, securing pedestrian space and correcting poorly aligned sections.

The Sangju Naeseo–Yeonwon project, designed to reduce traffic accidents, covers 6.0 kilometers at a cost of 57.2 billion won.

North Gyeongsang Province Governor Lee Cheol-woo said he would "work closely with the National Assembly and the central government to ensure these projects proceed without delay, doing everything possible to break ground and complete the national arterial road network expansion and wide-area transport connectivity projects as soon as possible."
