Checks to cover potholes, subsidence, structural cracks and electrical equipment

Yangcheon-gu will conduct intensive safety inspections of roads and road facilities across the district from Tuesday through Sept. 19 to ensure safe travel conditions for residents ahead of the chuseok holiday, the district office announced Thursday.

To assess road and pedestrian safety before the holiday travel rush, the district will deploy five specialized inspection teams covering road facilities, road sections, sidewalk sections, excavation work sites and electrical installations.

Inspectors will check carriageways and sidewalks for pavement cracks, subsidence, damage, potholes and sinkholes. They will also examine waterlogging during rain, drainage conditions at key locations including bus stops, and safety management at excavation sites and surrounding roads.

Road structures will receive close scrutiny as well. Underground walkways will be checked for the operational status of flood-prevention equipment such as pumps, along with leaks, drainage and cracks. Overpasses, bridges and ecological tunnels will be inspected for structural cracks, foundation subsidence and corrosion, while road slopes and retaining walls will be examined for soil erosion, rockfalls and drainage damage.

Minor issues found during inspections will be addressed on the spot by road repair crews and on-site staff, while cases requiring larger-scale repairs will be referred to maintenance contractors for prompt action.

Alongside this, the district will offer free vehicle checkups for residents in the district office parking lot on Sept. 13 to help them travel safely for the chuseok holiday.

"We will swiftly address hazards before the holiday and maintain a tight emergency response system so that residents can enjoy a safe and comfortable chuseok," District Mayor Lee Gi-jae said.
