Uljin-gun County Chief Hwang I-ju visited the North Gyeongsang Provincial Government on Monday and met with Governor Lee Cheol-woo to outline the county's key pending projects and strategies for securing future growth, requesting the province's active attention and support.

The two sides discussed a wide range of issues facing Uljin-gun, including attracting a second round of public institution and national research institute relocations, connecting Hupo to Cheongsong IC via expressway, expanding National Route 36 to four lanes, constructing a new bridge between Wangpicheon Park and Mangyangjeong, resuming passenger ferry service between Hupo and Ulleungdo, revitalizing Baegam Hot Springs, and improving the county's share of provincial funding and operations for Uljin-gun Medical Center.

North Gyeongsang Governor Lee said the province would "actively review the projects among those proposed by Uljin-gun that fall within the province's scope of support, and work together with Uljin-gun on those requiring central government planning or regulatory improvements."

County Chief Hwang said that given Uljin-gun's long role in supporting the nation's energy industry, "we must now build a structure in which the energy and resources produced in the region feed directly into Uljin's industries, jobs, tourism and healthcare — driving real local development." He added that he would "work closely with North Gyeongsang Province and relevant agencies to ensure the county's key pending projects move forward without delay."
