An AI-based safety management system introduced by Chuncheon's Architecture Division at public construction sites has won the top prize at the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province proactive administration competition.
A total of 34 cases were submitted by Gangwon Province and municipalities across the province. Six advanced to the final round, where presentations and judging named Chuncheon's AI-based safety management system the top case.
The system uses AI-equipped CCTV cameras to analyze live footage from construction sites, detecting hazards such as workers not wearing hard hats, fallen workers, unauthorized entry into restricted zones and fires. When a danger is detected, an alarm broadcast is immediately transmitted on-site to alert workers and help them comply with safety protocols.
Judges gave high marks to Chuncheon's decision to directly fund the system's introduction and testing as the project owner, rather than leaving safety management solely to contractors.
The city is currently running pilot projects at three public construction sites, including the Sinbuk Bandabi Sports Center. It plans to analyze operational results and gradually expand the program to additional sites.
