Yangcheon-gu is accepting applications from local restaurants to operate food booths at the 3rd Yangcheon Family Street Festival, set for Oct. 25 near Sinjeong Intersection Station. The district is accepting submissions from Tuesday through Sept. 4.
Now in its third year, the Yangcheon Family Street Festival transforms a stretch of urban road into a festival ground where all generations can enjoy performances, cultural activities, hands-on experiences and food together. To showcase the district's distinctive flavors, Yangcheon-gu will publicly recruit about 20 local eateries to operate a dedicated "food zone" at the event.
Last year's festival featured 20 of Yangcheon-gu's top restaurants, which offered a wide range of options — from snacks such as spicy fried chicken, noodles and ice cream to full meals. Popular booths drew long lines of visitors eager to sample the food, adding to the festival's culinary appeal.
This year's food zone will again span the full generational range, from trendy snacks popular with children to nostalgic street food beloved by adults. The lineup aims to give visitors a richer dining experience while giving participating businesses a chance to introduce their restaurants and signature dishes to a large crowd.
Eligible applicants are licensed general or snack-food restaurants located in Yangcheon-gu that have been in operation for at least three years after business registration and are able to obtain a temporary operating permit for the festival period.
Interested businesses may submit an application form and required documents to the Yangcheon Cultural Foundation by email from Tuesday through Sept. 4. Full eligibility requirements and a list of required documents are available on the Yangcheon Cultural Foundation's website. Additional inquiries may be directed to the foundation.
A selection committee will review all applications and announce results on Sept. 11. Evaluators will consider whether the menu is accessible and affordable for family visitors, whether the restaurant offers a differentiated signature dish, and whether it represents the local community. Selected vendors will operate their food booths from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on the day of the festival.
Last year's 2nd Yangcheon Family Street Festival drew about 85,000 visitors in a single day, cementing its status as a flagship district event. This year's edition runs from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Oct. 25 along an approximately 900-meter stretch between Sinjeong Intersection Station and the Sinjeong 1-dong post office. The six-lane road in that section will be fully closed for 30 hours — from 10 p.m. on Oct. 24 to 4 a.m. on Oct. 26 — and city buses serving the route will be rerouted.
"I hope the festival will be an even richer experience for the whole family, with Yangcheon's distinctive flavors added to the sights and activities on offer," district mayor Lee Gi-jae said. "I encourage the many restaurants in our district to participate actively so that visitors can discover the hidden tastes and charms of Yangcheon."
