Singer MC Mong, whose real name is Shin Dong-hyun, 46, has been cleared of allegations that he obtained sleeping pills through a proxy prescription.

The Gangnam Police Station in Seoul said Thursday that it closed the case against MC Mong on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act on Tuesday, citing insufficient evidence.

Police reached the decision after reviewing statements gathered during an investigation of the accused and the results of a forensic analysis conducted by the National Forensic Service.

The case began in January when a media outlet reported allegations that MC Mong had received zolpidem through a proxy prescription. The report cited a recorded phone conversation in which MC Mong's former manager appeared to say he had obtained the medication in his own name and passed it on to the singer, saying, "I got it all and just gave it to you. Under my name."

Following the report, former Korean Medical Association president Lim Hyun-taek filed a complaint against MC Mong, triggering the investigation.
