The Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City announced Thursday it will hold the "2027 Academic Year Gwangju College Admissions Information Session for Out-of-School Youth" on Wednesday and Aug. 29, at the Gwangju Out-of-School Youth Support Center.
The event was organized to improve out-of-school youth and their guardians' access to college admissions information and to offer tailored application strategies for students preparing to enter university through the high school equivalency exam.
Starting at 3 p.m. Wednesday, individual university consultation booths will be set up with participation from 19 universities in the Jeonnam-Gwangju area. Students will be able to meet with admissions officers to discuss rolling and regular admissions requirements, as well as how equivalency exam scores are factored into applications.
The 19 participating institutions are Gwangju National University of Education, Gwangju University, Gwangju Health University, Gwangju Women's University, Mokpo National University, Mokpo National Maritime University, Suncheon National University, Christian College of Nursing, Nambu University, Donggang University, Dongshin University, Seoyeong University, Songwon University, Chonnam National University, Chosun University, Chosun University of Science and Technology, Korea Polytechnic University Gwangju Campus, Honam University and Honam Theological University.
At 5 p.m. the same day, Seo Jeom-gwon, head of the college admissions support team at the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City Office of Education, will deliver a special lecture titled "Getting into University Through the Equivalency Exam," followed by a question-and-answer session. The lecture will cover rolling admissions strategies for equivalency exam graduates, the characteristics of different application tracks, and key points to keep in mind during the application process.
On Aug. 29, a one-on-one in-depth college admissions consultation program will be offered with 13 active teachers. Beginning at 9 a.m., the consultations will take a comprehensive look at each student's equivalency exam scores, mock test results and intended major to suggest personalized university and department application strategies.
Out-of-school youth and parents wishing to participate may register in advance via QR code or through the Out-of-School Youth Support Center, or sign up on-site on the day of the event. Those who register by Friday will also receive a college admissions reference booklet.
Choi Gyeong-hwa, director of the women and family affairs bureau at the Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City, said youth who have stepped outside the school system have the right to receive systematic and fair admissions information. "We hope this information session will serve as a solid foundation for out-of-school youth to build confidence and achieve their academic goals," she said.
