Seodaemun-gu announced Thursday that it will hold the "2026 Sinchon Global University Culture Festival" along Yonsei-ro in Sinchon for three days from Sept. 11 to 13.
Running under the slogan "Global Wave, Sinchon Vibe," the festival is organized by Seodaemun-gu and co-hosted by a university student planning committee. This year marks its fourth edition.
Unlike typical street festivals where audiences simply watch performances, the event is designed as a youth-driven festival in which university students and international students take direct roles in planning, performing, competing and running experience booths. The format brings together the campus culture of Sinchon and the cultures of countries from around the world in one place.
On the opening day, Sept. 11, university cheering squads, flag corps and club performances will kick off the festivities, followed by an opening ceremony and a celebratory concert featuring acts including Crying Nut.
On Sept. 12, highlights will include the "Sinchon SWYFT Sports Day," in which domestic and international students team up to compete, along with "Sinchon UNI.ON," a showcase of university club talent, and "Sinchon University Street Lectures," where academic knowledge and campus stories come to the streets.
On the final day, Sept. 13, a world culture performance featuring traditional and contemporary acts from various countries and a K-pop song contest open to international students living in Korea will precede a closing concert to wrap up the three-day event.
Experience booths operating Sept. 12 and 13 will be divided into three categories — "Global Culture," "World Food" and "University Students" — giving visitors a chance to explore cultures from around the world and from local campuses. The "Global Culture" and "World Food" booths will feature foreign embassies, tourism agencies and cultural centers based in Korea, introducing traditional dress, languages, tourism and cuisine from their respective countries. The "University Students" booth will have clubs, student organizations and international student groups present their activities and research alongside hands-on campus culture experiences.
Seodaemun-gu District Mayor Park Un-gi said he looks forward to seeing "a vibrant university city of Sinchon, where young people from around the world meet, share their cultures, and breathe new life into its streets and alleyways."
