The won has strengthened back into the 1,300-won range against the dollar, buoyed by a recent downward trend in the exchange rate. The rate had not broken below the 1,400-won level since Oct. 2, 2025, when it stood at 1,399.5 won — a gap of about 10 and a half months. Analysts attribute the move to dollar-selling by exporters and growing expectations that the Federal Reserve will not raise its benchmark interest rate at its September FOMC meeting. The photo was taken Thursday morning at Hana Bank's counterfeit response center in Jung-gu, Seoul.
