The won-dollar exchange rate has fallen back into the 1,300-won range on the back of a recent strengthening trend. The rate last broke below the 1,400-won level on Oct. 2, 2025, when it closed at 1,399.5 won — the first time in about 10 and a half months the won has traded in the 1,300s. Analysts attribute the move to dollar-selling by exporters and growing expectations that the Federal Reserve will hold its benchmark interest rate steady at its September FOMC meeting. The dealing-room board at Hana Bank in Jung-gu, Seoul, showed the rate hovering around 1,380 won on Thursday morning.
