Gangbuk-gu District Mayor Jung Chang-su joined a live counterterrorism drill held as part of the Ulji CPX at the Ui-Sinseol urban rail depot Wednesday morning, training alongside representatives from related agencies and local residents.
The exercise was based on a scenario in which an unidentified person left an object in the first-floor lobby of the depot that subsequently exploded, triggering a large fire and casualties. More than 200 people took part, including personnel from Gangbuk-gu, the Gangbuk Fire Station, the Gangbuk Police Station, military units, a voluntary disaster prevention corps, civil defense leaders, and local residents and workers.
Participating organizations successfully carried out response procedures modeled on a real emergency — evacuating residents, relaying situation updates via the national disaster safety communications network, setting up a field emergency medical station, administering first aid to casualties, controlling the movement of people and vehicles, and operating an integrated disaster scene support headquarters.
"Because disasters strike without warning, repeated drills based on real-life scenarios and inter-agency cooperation are more important than anything else," Jung said. He also urged residents to take part in the air-raid civil defense drill scheduled for Friday, asking them to move quickly to the nearest shelter in accordance with public safety guidelines when the alert sounds and to comply with vehicle control measures.
