No-parking zones take effect Sept. 1
The city of Paju announced Thursday that two newly installed fixed CCTV cameras for illegal parking enforcement have completed test operations and will begin full enforcement Sept. 1. The cameras are located in front of Yangeuimun Church (1118 Mokdong-dong) and at the intersection in front of Byeolharam Elementary School (1664-472 Wadong-dong).
The enforcement drive aims to ease traffic congestion along stretches with heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic and to address safety concerns caused by obstructed sightlines from illegally parked vehicles.
The cameras will operate on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends and public holidays. However, a grace period applies during the lunch hour, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
To minimize public confusion ahead of enforcement, the city is conducting an administrative notice period throughout August, alongside on-site guidance measures including banner postings to publicize the no-parking zones in advance.
Lee Seong-won, head of the parking management division, said the installation of the new fixed CCTV cameras and the start of enforcement were "unavoidable measures to reduce inconvenience for residents and create a safer traffic environment." He added that the city would continue to strengthen management of areas prone to illegal parking and develop traffic safety measures that reflect on-the-ground conditions, so residents can travel the roads with peace of mind.
Meanwhile, Paju plans to continue regular inspections and improvements, focusing on areas that frequently generate complaints about illegal parking or require closer traffic safety management.
