The Korea Economic Association held talks with major domestic companies Thursday to discuss global business policy recommendations ahead of the B20 Summit in November.

The federation hosted a "B20 Korea Business Breakfast Meeting" at FKI Tower in Yeouido, Seoul, inviting Kim Hee-sang, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' G20 sherpa, along with representatives from domestic companies participating in key B20 task forces.

The B20 Summit is a business forum where representatives of major economic organizations and companies from G20 member and guest countries gather to discuss global economic issues and formulate policy recommendations. The Korea Economic Association has served as the official channel representing South Korea's business community at B20 since the forum launched in 2010. Policy recommendations produced through B20 serve as reference material conveying the views of the global business community during G20 summit discussions.

With working-level discussions underway across subcommittees ahead of the November summit, the federation organized the meeting to more actively reflect the South Korean business community's positions in the final policy recommendation document.

Jung Cheol, the federation's chief research officer and president of the Korea Economic Research Institute, said B20 is "an important channel through which the global business community can directly convey the voice of industry to G20 leaders." He added that the discussions "deserve close attention, as they could serve as the foundation for the 2028 G20 and B20 — when South Korea will assume the chair country role."

The meeting drew representatives from SK Group, Hyundai Motor, LG Group, HD Hyundai and other major companies participating in this year's B20 task forces. Attendees received a briefing from sherpa Kim on recent G20 discussion trends and the roadmap leading up to the leaders' summit, and exchanged views on policy recommendations under discussion in each task force as well as key issues of concern to South Korea's business community.
