Yeongdeungpo-gu (district mayor Cho Yu-jin) has won the Excellence Award at the 2026 National Local Government Jobs Competition organized by the Ministry of Employment and Labor, claiming the honor for the third consecutive year.
The National Local Government Jobs Competition evaluates all 243 local governments nationwide each year on their job-creation measures and target achievement, selecting and recognizing the top performers.
In this year's assessment, the district received high marks in three areas: expanding specialized job training in the care sector — including programs for care workers and hospital escort managers — along with initiatives to strengthen the employability of career-interrupted women and multicultural families; operating an integrated job support center to provide residents with tailored employment counseling and detailed job information; and bolstering the self-sufficiency of small business owners through the revitalization of traditional markets and neighborhood commercial districts and the operation of the public online food delivery platform Ddaenggyeoyo.
The district also ranked first among Seoul's autonomous districts in both overall and female employment rates in the Ministry of Statistics' regional employment surveys for the first and second halves of 2025.
In addition, the district created more than 15,000 jobs — 112 percent of its original target of 14,000.
Looking ahead, the district will continue to focus on building a tighter employment safety net that residents can feel directly. Since July, it has been providing stable public jobs to 217 vulnerable residents through its "Companion Jobs" and "Community Jobs" projects. In the second half of the year, it plans to hold an additional job fair matching job seekers with companies on a one-to-one basis to actively address employment blind spots.
"We will do our utmost to build an even more robust employment safety net so that no one is left behind — not youth, not women, not middle-aged workers, and not those most vulnerable in the labor market," district mayor Cho said.
