Two men have been indicted on charges of gang-raping a woman in her 20s after she lost consciousness at an entertainment venue where she worked, and of illegally filming the assault.
According to police, the Gangnam Police Station referred the two suspects, identified only as A and B, to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office on July 21 on charges of aggravated rape under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes and illegal filming. Prosecutors indicted both men on the same charges on Aug. 6.
The two are accused of gang-raping the victim at an entertainment venue near Seolleung Station in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on July 12.
According to the victim's side, she had been working a part-time shift at the venue when she entered a private room where A, B and several women were gathered. When the women in the room declined to drink, the men became threatening — at one point hurling glasses at them, according to the account. The victim said she lost consciousness after repeatedly drinking alcohol the men had handed her.
When she regained consciousness, the other women and some of the men had already left, with only A and B remaining. The victim's side said she resisted but that the two men forcibly restrained and raped her.
A and B also face charges of illegally filming the victim on their mobile phones. Investigators found that the men poured ice over the victim's body in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence of the assault.
After the two men left the room, a venue employee discovered the victim and called police. Investigators later found illegal footage on the men's mobile phones.
The Gangnam Police Station made emergency arrests of both suspects and applied for arrest warrants. After a court issued the warrants, the two were transferred to prosecutors in custody on July 21.
