Lotte department store said it has introduced "Shirokin wagyu," a fullblood wagyu that won a gold medal from the Australian Wagyu Association, for the first time in Korea. The beef is grain-fed for more than 450 days.

Shirokin wagyu goes on sale Wednesday at Lotte's main store and its Jamsil, Incheon, Nowon, Dongtan and Gangnam locations. Starting Sept. 4, it will also be available as a chuseok gift set in two options: the "Shirokin Wagyu Omakase" set — featuring MB9+ rated sirloin, chuck flap, skirt, short rib, ribeye cap and bone-in short rib, totaling 1.8 kilograms, priced at 380,000 won ($269) — and the "Shirokin Wagyu Myeongpum" set, which includes MB9+ rated sirloin, chuck flap, skirt and short rib, totaling 1.2 kilograms, at 270,000 won.

"Australian wagyu is raised in Australia's natural environment using genetics from Japanese wagyu," said Kim Hyo-jun, chief buyer for meat products at Lotte department store. "We introduced Shirokin wagyu to Korea for the first time to offer customers a diverse and differentiated selection of premium meat products."
