Submissions accepted through Oct. 31
Educational videos, comics to be produced in collaboration
Hyundai Motor Group announced Wednesday that it is holding the "2nd Kumon Creative Literature Contest with Hyundai Motor Group," open to the general public through Oct. 31. The contest aims to familiarize people of all ages — from children to adults — with hydrogen, a key pillar of the energy transition.
Hyundai Motor Group said it organized the contest with Kumon out of a belief that popularizing hydrogen technology requires not only technical development but also a process by which members of society, including future generations, can easily understand and appreciate the value and potential of hydrogen. Kumon is an education service with a broad reach spanning preschoolers to adults.
This year, the contest has been expanded to the general public, allowing diverse generations from children to adults to freely express their thoughts on hydrogen. The theme is "eco-friendliness and hydrogen," and entries are accepted across six categories: illustrations (preschool and elementary divisions), poetry (elementary division), and prose (elementary, middle and high school, and adult divisions).
Prospective participants can submit their work through the contest website starting Wednesday, and winners will be announced Nov. 16. An awards ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 28, at which 234 individual winners and one group will share a total prize pool of 37 million won ($26,100).
Hyundai Motor Group also plans to develop a range of educational and experiential content tied to the contest to deepen public understanding of hydrogen. The group will produce and distribute content for Kumon members and instructors — including educational videos and comics that introduce the concept of hydrogen and its applications in an accessible way. An activity book will also be prepared to help children learn about hydrogen naturally through coloring and true-or-false quizzes.
Hyundai Motor Group and Kumon will also run promotional activities across various online and offline channels during the contest period. The group plans to operate experiential programs at key Kumon locations, including vehicle-to-load (V2L) demonstrations using eight units of the all-new Nexo. Contest promotional videos and hydrogen-themed images will also be displayed on outdoor digital signage at Kumon's headquarters.
"We hope this contest gives people of all generations, from children to adults, the freedom to share their thoughts on hydrogen and naturally discover its value and potential," a Hyundai Motor Group official said. "We will continue to introduce a variety of programs that make hydrogen easier and more approachable to experience."
