The Online Lifelong Education Institute of Korea University of Technology and Education has launched a public monitoring group to improve the quality of STEP, its online vocational training platform. Learners will use the platform directly to assess its system and content, with their feedback incorporated into service operations.

The institute held a launch ceremony Wednesday for the "2026 STEP Service Monitoring Group" at the Korea Trade Insurance Corporation (K-SURE) Cheonan branch office, marking the start of the group's activities. The monitoring group comprises 20 members.

Members will use the STEP platform from a learner's perspective, reviewing the service as a whole and submitting improvement suggestions. The relevant departments within the institute will review those suggestions before incorporating them into service improvements and future operational plans.

The group will be active for approximately three months, through Oct. 30. In the first phase, members will examine the platform's overall operations, including promotion and general service. From the second phase onward, the group will split into two specialized teams — "system" and "content" — to identify more targeted and in-depth areas for improvement.

Members will receive a modest activity stipend. After a comprehensive review of final activity reports, four outstanding members will receive an award from the institute's director.

Han Yeon-hui, director of the Online Lifelong Education Institute, said the monitoring group serves as "an important communication channel for reflecting the real experiences and opinions of learners into improvements." She added that the institute plans to "identify more effective improvement tasks through group-specific in-depth monitoring this year and build a STEP service that learners can truly feel the difference in."

STEP is a platform that provides free online vocational training content in technology, engineering, and digital and emerging technology fields to the general public, including employed workers, job seekers and those preparing to enter the workforce. It also offers a learning management system (LMS) pre-sale service to vocational training institutions, companies and universities.
