Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tuesday that Tehran wants a complete end to its conflict with the United States, not a temporary truce.

According to Iran's semi-official Fars News Agency, Araghchi said, "Some countries have offered to mediate, but our answer to all of them has been absolutely clear — we want an end to the war, not a truce."

He added that Iran had no interest in a repeat of what he called the "12-day war" scenario, in which a truce ends only for fighting to resume just months later.

Iran and the United States signed an MOU in June to end their conflict.

Tensions flared again, however, when Iran attacked merchant vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz amid a dispute over control of the waterway, prompting the United States to launch airstrikes against Iran in response.

After Iran carried out retaliatory strikes on US military bases in the Middle East, setting off a cycle of escalation, both countries declared the end-of-war MOU null and void.
