Gwangju University announced Tuesday that it will select 1,351 students through its 2027 early admissions round, scheduled to run from Sept. 7 to Sept. 11.
The admissions process consists of four school record-based tracks and one performance and achievement track. The school record-based tracks require no interview or practical examination and rely solely on academic records.
Among the school record-based tracks, the general student, regional student, and basic livelihood recipient and near-poverty tracks weight academic grades at 90 percent and attendance at 10 percent. The community service talent track weights academic grades at 60 percent, attendance at 10 percent and volunteer work at 30 percent.
The performance and achievement track weights school records at 30 percent and practical examinations at 70 percent. It covers four departments within the College of Cultural Industries: the School of Sports Science, the Department of Taekwondo, the Department of Photography and Visual Media, and the Department of Creative Writing.
Gwangju University will waive first-semester tuition in full for students whose household income falls within brackets 0 through 8 of the national scholarship income classification.
Students with strong average ratings across four College Scholastic Ability Test subjects — Korean, English, mathematics and one elective in the inquiry area — will receive merit scholarships on a sliding scale, ranging from full tuition coverage for four years to a 25 percent reduction for the first semester, depending on their rating.
Starting with the 2027 academic year, the university will also introduce a new scholarship waiving first-semester tuition in full for children of military personnel, police officers, firefighters and correctional civil servants.
