Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will make an official visit to South Korea on Wednesday and Thursday for bilateral foreign ministers' talks.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Park Du-sun said at a regular briefing Tuesday that Wang is visiting at the invitation of Foreign Minister Cho Hyun.

"The two ministers plan to hold in-depth discussions on bilateral relations, the situation on the Korean Peninsula, and regional and international issues of mutual interest through a foreign ministers' meeting and an official dinner on Wednesday," Park said.

The visit marks Wang's first trip to South Korea in about five years since September 2021. The foreign ministers' meeting will also be the first since the two sides held talks in Beijing in September last year — a gap of roughly 11 months.

Park said the meeting is expected to serve as an opportunity to assess progress in the full restoration of South Korea-China relations and to begin preparations in earnest for the next steps and high-level exchanges, ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Shenzhen in November.
