The Busan city government announced Tuesday that it will restrict traffic on sections of Jangsan Tunnels 1 and 2 in Haeundae-gu from Tuesday through Aug. 31 to carry out guidance light installation work inside the tunnels.

Guidance lights are directional lighting fixtures that allow drivers and pedestrians to check their current position and the distance to the nearest tunnel entrance or exit. The city's Road Planning Division is overseeing the project, with Geojung Co. as the contractor and Bowon Engineering as the construction supervisor.

The city said the work is intended to help people evacuate quickly in emergencies and improve overall safety for tunnel users.

To avoid congestion during peak commuting hours, the restrictions will run from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night and are set to be fully lifted at 5 a.m. on Aug. 31.

During the restriction period, one of the three lanes in each direction of Jangsan Tunnels 1 and 2 will be closed, while the remaining two lanes will stay open to minimize inconvenience to the public.

Baek Myeong-gi, the city's urban planning bureau chief, said the goal of the project is to provide a safer driving environment for tunnel users, and asked for the public's cooperation and understanding during the traffic restriction period.
