Program runs Wednesday through Friday, twice daily, up to 20 per session
Paju city will resume its DMZ Peace Trail theme route on Sept. 2, after temporarily suspending the program to prevent safety incidents during the monsoon season, Mayor Son Bae-chan's office announced.
The Paju course of the DMZ Peace Trail theme route is part of efforts to transform the demilitarized zone into a zone of peace. It operates two routes, including one that takes visitors along a fence line normally closed to the public.
Course 1 departs from Imjingak and covers the ecological trail, Dora Observatory and Dorasan Peace Park. It runs on weekday mornings and weekends.
Course 2 also departs from Imjingak and visits the ecological trail, the Third Infiltration Tunnel, Dorasan Station and the inter-Korean transit office checkpoint. It operates on weekday afternoons.
The program runs twice daily, Wednesday through Friday each week, with up to 20 participants per session.
Those wishing to take part can register in advance through the DMZ Peace Trail website, the Korea Dulle-gil walking travel website "Durunubi" or the Durunubi app. For further details, contact the DMZ Peace Trail theme route customer center.
Lee Myung-hee, head of the tourism division, said the DMZ Peace Trail is "a path where you can reflect on the meaning of peace simply by walking and looking around, without needing a difficult history lesson." She added that she hopes "many people will walk the DMZ Peace Trail and take time to appreciate the value of ecology and peace."
