Mapo-gu announced Tuesday that its second-half 2026 road management committee passed road management agenda items for Station 109 (Sangam Station) and Station 110 (Seongsan Station) on the Daejang-Hongdae Line at a meeting held Thursday.

The approvals are expected to accelerate the broader Daejang-Hongdae metropolitan railway project by allowing excavation work at both stations to proceed in parallel.

The Daejang-Hongdae Line is a metropolitan railway route running from the Daejang new town in Bucheon through northern Bucheon and Seoul's Gangseo-gu, connecting the Digital Media City area with Hongik University Station. The line is designed to improve access to western Seoul, address transportation blind spots and expand the public transit network serving the Daejang new town.

The district had deferred the agenda items for Sangam and Seongsan stations at the first-half review, citing ongoing litigation seeking to relocate Station 111 (Hongik University Station) and add stops including a DMC station.

The committee conducted a comprehensive review covering road management and safety concerns that could arise during construction, potential inconvenience to residents, and the transportation benefits residents have sought.

The agenda items related to Hongik University Station were deferred again, as they had been in the first half. The district said it needed more time to examine the station relocation issue that residents have persistently raised, alongside a lawsuit Mapo-gu has filed against the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to cancel approval of the private investment project implementation plan.

The district plans to conduct a thorough review of the Hongik University Station location and consult with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and other relevant agencies to develop a reasonable approach that improves user convenience and local transportation conditions.

"We will spare no administrative effort to push forward sections that benefit residents as swiftly as possible and to build the transportation network they need as soon as we can," district Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun said.
