City holds operational planning review Tuesday ahead of November conference
Daejeon Mayor Heo Tae-jeong on Tuesday held a planning review to assess preparations for the 9th World Conference on Photovoltaic Energy Conversion (WCPEC-9), scheduled for November, covering academic programming, exhibitions, accommodations, transportation and safety.
The review brought together officials from the city of Daejeon, the Korean Photovoltaic Society, the Daejeon Tourism Organization and the event's operating agency to share the overall management plan and check progress across all areas, including official ceremonies, academic sessions, exhibitions, transport, lodging, safety management and public outreach.
WCPEC is the world's largest international academic conference on photovoltaics, jointly organized every four years by the three leading solar energy research societies representing the Americas, Europe and Asia. The 9th edition will run for six days, from Nov. 15 to Nov. 20, at Exhibition Halls 1 and 2 of the Daejeon Convention Center.
The conference is designed as a multifaceted international event combining academic presentations, an industry exhibition and public participation programs. Planned activities include lectures by leading global scholars, a future-oriented energy exhibition, international cooperation sessions, a public energy festival, a citizen forum and industry and technology tours.
At the review, Mayor Heo examined the venue's operational framework, participant flow, accommodation and transportation support, exhibition and conference hall management, official ceremony logistics, on-site safety and emergency response systems, and coordination among city promotion and partner agencies.
He particularly urged officials to build an operational foundation befitting a large-scale international event and to sharpen the implementation plans so that both domestic and international participants can attend without difficulty.
"WCPEC-9 is a vital opportunity to showcase Daejeon's science and technology capabilities and its standing as an international city," Heo said. "Let us prepare meticulously across every area — academic programming, exhibitions, accommodations, transportation and safety management — and run the citizen forum and other participation programs with real substance, so that all attendees, at home and abroad, can take part without difficulty and we can make this a truly successful international event."
