Jungnang-gu is holding an online resident vote for its participatory budgeting process through Aug. 31 to help shape the district's 2027 budget.
The participatory budgeting system allows residents to propose and vote on projects they want funded in their community, giving the public a direct role in how local money is spent. Jungnang-gu runs the program annually to strengthen communication with residents and identify community needs together.
This year, residents submitted 216 project proposals. After departmental review for necessity and feasibility, 88 projects were selected as candidates for the public vote.
The 88 projects span two categories: 41 in resident lifestyle and 47 in urban development and construction, covering a wide range of initiatives closely tied to daily life in the district.
Any Jungnang-gu resident, as well as workers and students based in the district, can cast a vote through the Seoul Metropolitan Government's mVoting website. Participants simply select the projects they believe their community needs most.
Based on the results, the district plans to finalize projects totaling about 1.1 billion won for inclusion in the budget. The selected projects will go through Jungnang District Council review before being incorporated into the 2027 main budget.
"The participatory budget is a system of engagement and communication in which residents themselves propose and decide on the projects their community needs," district mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi said. "Every vote from our residents drives change in Jungnang, so I encourage everyone to take part and directly choose the projects that matter most to your neighborhood."
