Seven people were killed in an Israeli strike in southern Lebanon on Saturday, AFP and other outlets reported, citing local Lebanese media.
Lebanon's state-run National News Agency said enemy fighter jets struck a house on the outskirts of the village of Ansar in the early hours of Saturday, killing seven people and wounding three. AFP described it as the deadliest single attack since the ceasefire agreement reached in June.
The Israeli military struck parts of the southern Lebanese city of Nabatieh and the Ali al-Taher hill within its buffer zone, according to reports. Israel has carried out near-daily strikes in the area since the truce took effect.
The two sides reached ceasefire agreements on April 17 and again on June 20, but Israel has continued intermittent strikes, designating parts of southern Lebanon as hideouts for Hezbollah, the Iran-backed armed group.
On Aug. 6, an Israeli soldier was killed in clashes between the two sides — the first such death since the June ceasefire. The framework agreement signed by Israel and Lebanon in June calls for Hezbollah to disarm and for Israeli forces to withdraw from southern Lebanon.
Israel and Lebanon have held seven rounds of negotiations, including recent talks in Rome. Hezbollah has refused to disarm, however, accusing the Lebanese government of making concessions without securing a guaranteed Israeli withdrawal. An eighth round of talks is scheduled for Rome next month.
The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah began on March 2, two days after the start of the war with Iran, when Hezbollah attacked Israel in support of Tehran.
Israeli-occupied territory in Lebanon is demarcated by a line Israel calls the "Yellow Line." The zone covers roughly 6 percent of Lebanese territory and extends about 10 kilometers inland from the informal border between the two countries.
