A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck off the eastern coast of Indonesia early Saturday (local time), Reuters and AFP reported.

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS) and the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake hit around 5 a.m. in waters off Flores Island. The epicenter was located about 68 kilometers northwest of the city of Ende, at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The EMSC issued a tsunami warning following the quake. At least three aftershocks measuring around magnitude 6.1 and 5.9 were subsequently recorded. No damage has been reported so far.

Indonesia was also struck by a magnitude 7.4 earthquake on April 1 this year. The country sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a seismically active belt prone to frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
