SK Securities saw its first-half net profit surge 267% from a year earlier, fueled by a sharp rise in brokerage revenue as domestic stock trading volume climbed.
The company said Friday that its cumulative net profit for the first half of this year, on a consolidated basis, reached approximately 56.9 billion won ($40.2 million), up from 15.5 billion won in the same period last year. Net profit for the second quarter alone came to 33.5 billion won.
First-half operating profit rose 887% to 51.3 billion won, compared with 5.2 billion won a year earlier, driven by an 84% increase in net commission income to 145.8 billion won. The gain reflected higher brokerage fee income as equity trading volume surged.
Earnings from financial products and dividends also improved. Net gains from financial products grew 137% over the year to 57.2 billion won, from 24.1 billion won, while dividend income rose 118% to 27.5 billion won.
