Paris Baguette announced Friday that it will raise prices on select products due to rising costs.

The increases will take effect in stages beginning Aug. 25, covering 86 bread varieties and 41 cake and dessert items, with an average increase of 5 percent. The adjustment is the first since February last year — a gap of about a year and a half.

Among the items affected, the recommended retail price of the Sangmijong fresh bread loaf will rise from 3,900 won ($2.80) to 4,100 won, the castella from 2,400 won to 2,500 won, and the My Number One Cake from 35,000 won to 36,000 won.

"We were left with no choice but to adjust prices due to rising raw material costs and various other expenses," a Paris Baguette official said.
