The Kospi crossed the 7,000-point threshold Friday for the first time in 15 trading days.

According to Korea Exchange, the Kospi stood at 6,997.46 as of 9:03 a.m., up 184.12 points, or 2.70 percent.

The index opened 182.33 points, or 2.68 percent, higher at 6,995.67 before climbing as far as 7,010.86, a gain of 2.90 percent, in early trading to touch the 7,000 mark.

The Kosdaq opened up 6.70 points, or 0.78 percent, at 868.07 and was trading at 873.77 at the same time, up 12.40 points, or 1.44 percent.
