Suwon said Friday it will pay 13.39 billion won ($9.47 million) in military noise compensation to 48,672 residents living near Suwon Airbase (K-13), disbursing the funds in stages.
The city accepted applications in January and February, calculated and reviewed the claims, and notified applicants of its initial decisions in May. After running a dispute period from June 1 through July 30, it finalized 48,672 people as eligible recipients.
The 48,600 residents who accepted the initial decision will receive their payments in a first round by Aug. 31. The remaining 72 who filed disputes will go through a separate consent process and receive their payments in a second round by Oct. 30.
Compensation is paid directly into the recipient's bank account, or into the account of a designated heir if the applicant has died. Cash payment is available in exceptional cases permitted under relevant laws.
Residents who missed this year's application window may retroactively apply for unpaid compensation — including amounts from 2025 — during the next intake period in January and February 2027. Those living in designated noise-impact zones must submit a new application each year.
