Gangnam-gu is promoting its medical tourism and health and beauty services to foreign visitors arriving during Japan's summer holiday season.

The district, in partnership with Grand Korea Leisure, is operating a K-Medical Wellness Experience Zone on the third floor of Seven Luck Casino Gangnam COEX through Aug. 31. The initiative uses the casino and COEX area — a popular destination for foreign tourists — as a promotional hub for Gangnam's medical services, with the aim of converting visitor interest into actual clinic visits.

Six of Gangnam-gu's medical tourism partner institutions are participating: Gwangdong Hospital, DM Dermatology Clinic, Samsao Plastic Surgery, Areumdaun Nara Dermatology Clinic, All Heart Plastic Surgery and JK Plastic Surgery. Each institution offers one-on-one consultations and introduces its services in dermatology, plastic surgery and other fields that draw strong interest from foreign visitors.

Hands-on programs are also available so tourists can experience Gangnam's medical, beauty and wellness services without making a separate clinic visit. Participants can have their skin condition and stress levels assessed and receive a consultation, along with beauty treatments and scalp and eye massages.

The zone also promotes "Gangnam Medi-Tour Medi-Sale," a medical tourism discount event for foreign visitors running throughout September. Participants can browse programs by specialty and clinic on the Gangnam Medical Tour official website and download discount vouchers for use at participating institutions.

Foreign medical tourists visiting Gangnam-gu reached a record 650,958 in 2025, a 72.6 percent increase from the previous year. To sustain that momentum, the district operates a one-stop concierge service covering transportation and interpretation from arrival to departure, "Medical Gangnam" — a platform for searching clinics and making consultations and reservations — and the Gangnam Medical Tour Center, a comprehensive medical tourism information hub.

"We set up the experience zone so that foreign tourists visiting Gangnam in the summer can naturally encounter medical and wellness services in the course of their travels," district mayor Kim Hyeon-gi said. "We will continue to highlight the strengths of Gangnam's medical tourism where foreign visitors gather and support efforts to turn that interest into actual clinic visits and local economic activity."
