Jungnang-gu, led by District Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi, held a public hearing and strategic environmental impact assessment briefing on the Myeonmok Line master plan Thursday at the district office, jointly organized with the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
The hearing gave residents a chance to review the key contents of the draft master plan and the preliminary strategic environmental impact assessment for the Myeonmok Line light rail project, which the Seoul Metropolitan Government is currently advancing, and to submit their opinions.
The Myeonmok Line light rail is an urban rail route that would connect Sinnae Station to Cheongnyangni Station via Sinnae-dong and Myeonmok-dong, and has long been one of Jungnang-gu's most sought-after infrastructure projects. The line was incorporated into Seoul's Second Urban Rail Network Construction Plan in 2020 and passed a preliminary feasibility study in June 2024. The Seoul Metropolitan Government commissioned a master plan study in October of that year, a process that is still ongoing.
The district plans to work closely with the Seoul Metropolitan Government to keep administrative procedures on track toward a target opening year of 2034. Once the line opens, it is expected to improve residents' commuting convenience, promote balanced regional development and help establish Jungnang-gu as a transportation hub for the northeastern part of the city.
"Through the Myeonmok Line light rail project, Jungnang-gu will be reborn as a well-connected transportation hub," District Mayor Ryu said. "We will work in close cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Government to advance the project without a hitch, and do our utmost to help Jungnang-gu emerge as the transportation hub of the northeast and a competitive city."
