Special Olympics Korea Incheon and the Namdong-gu Disabled Sports Association have joined forces to expand sports participation among people with disabilities, including those with developmental disabilities.

The two organizations — Special Olympics Korea Incheon, led by President Park Min-seo, and the Namdong-gu Disabled Sports Association, chaired by Namdong-gu District Office head Lee Byeong-rae — signed an MOU at the Namdong-gu District Office on Thursday to promote sports activities for people with disabilities and enhance sports welfare.

The agreement aims to support healthy lifestyles for people with disabilities, improve sports accessibility for those with developmental disabilities, and build a sustainable foundation for community-linked athletic activities.

Under the MOU, the two organizations plan to jointly develop and operate lifestyle sports programs for people with disabilities, drawing on each side's professional staff and sports-related resources.

They also plan to expand participation opportunities so that people with developmental disabilities can engage in sports consistently, rather than taking part in one-off events.

The two sides also agreed to strengthen ties with local sports facilities and related organizations to broaden the range of athletic options available to people with disabilities and create an environment where they can participate in a variety of sports programs.

Both organizations expect that promoting lifestyle sports will have a positive impact not only on the physical health of people with disabilities but also on their self-confidence and ability to form social relationships.

They also plan to expand opportunities for people with and without disabilities to interact naturally through sports, aiming to improve public awareness about disability and contribute to community integration.

"Through this agreement, we will work to create an environment where people with developmental disabilities can more easily access sports and participate consistently," a Special Olympics Korea Incheon official said. "We will work alongside the community to expand sports welfare for people with disabilities."

The Namdong-gu Disabled Sports Association also plans to expand cooperation with relevant organizations to promote sports activities for people with disabilities in the district and to develop programs that allow people with disabilities to enjoy a healthy leisure lifestyle.
