Broadcaster Kim Gura, who reportedly reaped strong returns after buying Samsung Electronics shares at 45,000 won ($32) per share, said he seized the recent market selloff as a chance to buy SK hynix at a low price.

Kim appeared Wednesday on MBC's entertainment program "Radio Star," where he and comedian Lee Chang-ho discussed personal finance and stock investment amid recent market volatility.

"SK hynix and Samsung Electronics have fallen a lot," Kim said. "SK hynix dropped to around 1.32 million won. A sidecar halt was triggered and I could not buy, so I bought in right before walking into the studio to record the show."

He said the 1.32 million won level was a price range where investors should "absolutely get in," urging an aggressive approach to buying.

Kim had previously drawn attention by disclosing his stock returns on his YouTube channel "Geurigura."

He said his son Geuri once asked why he had never bought a home in Gangnam, and that when he showed the boy his stock returns, "he was stunned" — suggesting his gains from equities had outpaced what real estate investment would have yielded.

Kim reportedly bought Samsung Electronics shares at 45,000 won each and held them for years, generating returns hundreds of times his original investment. Samsung Electronics closed Thursday at 268,000 won per share.

Meanwhile, SK hynix closed Thursday at 1.54 million won.

The SK hynix share price had climbed as high as 2.99 million won during intraday trading on June 25, but has since fallen to nearly half that level.
