Geonil, the leader and drummer of six-member band Xdinary Heroes, is leaving the group and his agency following a controversy over inappropriate remarks and comments disparaging fans.

JYP Entertainment said Thursday it had "deeply recognized the gravity of the situation" surrounding Geonil and held extensive discussions with the artist. "We have determined that it is no longer possible to continue activities together as a team, and have agreed by mutual consent to terminate his exclusive contract," the agency said.

JYP added that it "sincerely apologizes to fans for the distress caused by this sudden news," and said Xdinary Heroes would continue as a five-member group. "We will spare no effort in providing comprehensive support so that the members can focus on their music," it said.

Under the contract termination, Geonil will conclude all activities with the band. The controversy erupted after recordings allegedly capturing him disparaging fans and making inappropriate remarks during a private conversation were leaked and spread across online communities and SNS.

A graduate of Berklee College of Music in the United States, Geonil had served as the band's musical anchor as its leader and main drummer. The remaining five members will move forward immediately, taking the stage at Summer Sonic 2026, a major music festival in Japan, on Friday.
