HD Hyundai Chairman Chung Ki-sun said Thursday that the group's decision-making must focus on long-term results rather than immediate performance.
Chung made the remarks at a presidents' meeting held at the group's Global R&D Center in Pangyo, Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province. "Even amid heightened global uncertainty, our group has delivered solid earnings across most of its businesses," he said, while stressing the need for forward-looking decisions.
The meeting was attended by Chung, Vice Chairmen Jo Young-cheol and Jo Seok, and Vice Chairman Lee Sang-gyun, along with the chief executives of 11 affiliates spanning shipbuilding, marine, energy and construction equipment.
"We have painful experience of paying a heavy price for fixating on near-term results and missing shifts in the market," Chung said. "I will lead the way in building a management environment that is not consumed by short-term performance but can drive sustainable growth with a 10- to 20-year perspective."
He also urged the group to think harder and prepare more rigorously for future businesses, adding that safety must remain the top management priority. "The future we envision can only be realized when safety is guaranteed, so please concentrate your efforts on making it the foremost value in how we operate," he said.
The presidents reviewed first-half earnings, new businesses and future growth strategies for each affiliate, and discussed second-half business plans and execution strategies from multiple angles to navigate domestic and external uncertainties.
They also shared key group-wide priorities, including accelerating AI transformation, and assessed the feasibility of a roadmap to lead the market. As part of that effort, they reviewed the status of AI technology adoption across the group and examined the effectiveness of preventive measures against information-security risks that could arise in the process.
