Police are pressing ahead with their investigation into the People Power Party's member-board case. Investigators raided the company managing the server for the party's member message board as part of a probe into allegations that accounts under the names of then-PPP leader Han Dong-hoon and his family were used to post messages disparaging former President Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife.
PPP Secretary-General Jung Seok-jun told reporters at the National Assembly on Thursday that police had raided the server management firm for the party's member board on Wednesday. "We cooperated within the minimum necessary scope," he said.
The PPP maintains separate contractors for managing its membership registry and for operating the member board server.
Police have been accelerating their investigation, recently summoning a PPP public relations official who had managed the member board for questioning. They also asked the party secretariat to preserve data from the board server.
The case emerged in November 2024 after a technical glitch temporarily exposed the real names of posters on the PPP's member message board.
The incident prompted allegations, circulated mainly through some YouTube channels, that accounts bearing the names of Han and his family members had been used to post critical messages about then-President Yoon and his wife. Police launched an investigation after receiving a complaint filed by a civic group.
