Detailed planning is now underway to determine the location, curriculum and other specifics for a national medical graduate school set to open in 2029.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare held the second meeting of the National Medical Graduate School Establishment Preparatory Committee on Thursday at Seoul T-Tower in Jung-gu, Seoul.
Reflecting the outcomes of its first meeting, the preparatory committee agreed to form four expert subcommittees covering infrastructure, curriculum, operational systems and mandatory service requirements.
Each subcommittee will include external specialists and officials from relevant government agencies. The committee plans to establish the infrastructure and curriculum subcommittees first, given the current stage of preparations.
The infrastructure subcommittee will address site selection, design and construction planning, while the curriculum subcommittee will review preparations for medical education accreditation and the development of a public health-focused curriculum.
The ministry plans to finalize the school's location after deliberations by the preparatory committee and its subcommittees, and will also draft subordinate regulations governing the school's detailed operations.
Lee Hyung-hun, second vice minister of the Ministry of Health and Welfare and chair of the preparatory committee, said the formation of the subcommittees would allow field-specific discussions to move into full gear. "We will attend to every step of the preparation process to ensure a smooth opening in 2029 and the start of the curriculum in 2030," he said.
