A woman in her 20s died Wednesday after the vehicle she was driving fell from a rooftop parking lot at a supermarket in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province.
According to police, a Kia Seltos plunged 12 meters from the rooftop parking lot of a food and grocery supermarket in Homaesil-dong, Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, at around 6:27 p.m. Wednesday.
Firefighters who responded to the scene cut open part of the vehicle to extract the driver, identified only as a woman in her 20s. She was rescued in cardiac arrest and transported to a nearby hospital, where she died about 30 minutes later.
The vehicle belonged to the woman's mother. Investigators found that the woman did not hold a driver's license. She had dropped her mother off and continued driving before the accident.
"The vehicle broke through a sandwich-panel guardrail and fell to the ground below," a police official said, adding that authorities would investigate how long the victim had been driving the car.
