The Korean Liberation Association and Coupang Inc signed an MOU Wednesday at the Liberation Association Hall to launch a scholarship project honoring the sacrifices of independence activists and supporting the education of their descendants.

The agreement comes ahead of the 81st Liberation Day on Saturday and aims to express gratitude for those who gave their lives for the country, while nurturing their descendants as future contributors to national development.

Under the MOU, the two sides agreed on the following: Coupang Inc will fund scholarships and support the operation of the scholarship project for descendants of independence activists; the Korean Liberation Association will select eligible university and high school students through a fair and transparent process and distribute the funds as scholarships; and the association will establish and operate a scholarship selection committee and hold a certificate presentation ceremony for recipients.

The two organizations plan to consult on a project plan and operational framework, allocate scholarship quotas to and request nominations from regional branches nationwide, complete the selection process, and hold a scholarship certificate and award ceremony in December.
