The Busan city government launched its 2025 environmental industry survey Wednesday, with fieldwork running through Sept. 2.

The survey gauges the scale and economic characteristics of the environmental industry, one of Busan's key sectors. Its findings will serve as the basis for policy development, evaluation and analysis, as well as for securing central government funding.

First conducted as an official national statistical survey in 2021, this year marks its sixth edition. All businesses in Busan engaged in environmental industry activities as of Dec. 31, 2025 — or employing at least one worker in such activities — are subject to the survey, covering roughly 9,000 firms.

The survey covers 44 indicators, including company name, number of employees, sales and exports, investment and policy demand. Results are scheduled to be released in December. All data will be used solely for statistical purposes and strictly protected under Article 33 of the Statistics Act, which governs the protection of confidential information.

The survey will be conducted primarily through in-person visits by 135 field agents hired by the city. Businesses that prefer a remote option may participate via the internet survey portal (survey.k-stat.go.kr/ibusaneco25), email, fax or telephone.

Kim Dong-hyeon, director of the city's Future Technology Strategy Bureau, called the survey "an important statistical resource used to understand the structure and management conditions of the environmental industry and to inform Busan's environmental industry and technology policy development and evaluation." He urged all eligible businesses to participate actively and respond accurately.
