Abrams, a spinoff of the Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials, has joined forces with Quantumcat, a company specializing in innovative catalysts, to develop low-temperature oxidation catalyst-based environmental treatment technology and expand the carbon neutrality industrial ecosystem.

The partnership combines Abrams' capabilities in process design, equipment manufacturing and field engineering with Quantumcat's high-activity, high-stability gold (Au) nano-catalyst technology, aiming to address persistent problems in existing environmental equipment — high energy consumption and heavy maintenance burdens.

The two companies will collaborate on three fronts: jointly developing a catalyst-based environmental treatment system capable of effectively removing hazardous gases and volatile organic compounds generated across industries including semiconductors, chemicals, waste management and public facilities; developing low-carbon environmental treatment technology that reduces energy use and greenhouse gas emissions by applying room-temperature and low-temperature catalyst technology; and verifying treatment efficiency, catalyst lifespan and maintenance cost reductions through joint pilot facility operations and field demonstration projects.

The strategy goes beyond simply supplying catalysts. By building a "customized environmental treatment platform" that designs optimal catalysts and processes according to emission conditions, the two companies aim to overcome the limitations of a market that has long relied on high-temperature combustion and frequent filter replacements.
