'Direct Mayor's Office' held at Gyeonggi Gwangju Station tourism center
The city of Gwangju held the second session of its "Direct Mayor's Office" program Monday at the Gwangju Tourism Information Center inside Gyeonggi Gwangju Station, bringing Mayor Park Gwan-yeol face to face with residents to hear their everyday concerns and explore solutions to local issues.
The program was designed to take city government directly into the community, gathering a wide range of public input and working with relevant departments to identify practical remedies.
Mayor Park and city civil servants attended the event, meeting with commuters and residents at the station to listen to complaints about daily inconveniences and pressing local matters.
Residents raised a variety of concerns closely tied to daily life, including improvements to transfer facilities at Gyeonggi Gwangju Station, better public transit access and grievances related to redevelopment in the Yeokdong area.
Park listened to the suggestions in person and reviewed possible solutions and their feasibility on the spot with the civil servants present.
Requests received at the event will be examined in detail by the relevant departments, which will draw up specific action plans and monitor progress on an ongoing basis. The city plans to strengthen follow-up management so that residents can see tangible results from the administrative process.
"Listening to residents' voices up close is the starting point of field-based governance, and it is the role of public administration to carefully attend to even the smallest inconveniences people face in their daily lives and work to resolve them," Park said. "We will continue to strengthen communication-centered, field-based governance so that what we hear from residents translates into real change in city administration."
